Welcome to Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week Spring 2014! I’ve had the pleasure of covering the runways for NY1 News for the past nine seasons. I love covering the shows, doing backstage interviews and getting a sneak peak at the beauty and hair trends. But – I have to say – what happens outside of the tents is just as memorable as what happens inside them!
People often get dressed up and just stand outside Lincoln Center to be part of the Fashion Week frenzy. These fashionistas, and their New York Fashion Week street styles, often make it into blog posts, in newspaper and magazine stories and on TV. Several Fashion Week attendees caught my eye this weekend because their looks reminded me of what I have in my own Caché collection. These women had such cool stories about why they picked these pieces, too. So read on!
First, we met Caitlin from New York. I love how she paired this sleeveless ivory top with a black skort. Caché always has a strong black and white collection. I also should note, while we were photographing Caitlin, lots of press gathered around us to get a shot of her, too. So go through your closet and pull out the ivory even though it’s after Labor Day. Staple pieces shouldn’t have to wait a whole year for you to wear them again.
Next is Samantha. Wow! Check out the illusion and zipper on the back of her leather dress. I love when a piece can be elegant and edgy at the same time. If you have a similar LBD from previous seasons, but want to be fashion-forward, play with your make up or accessories. In Samantha’s case, she focused on her hair. Twists and braids are huge right now, so grab your hair tools and make this classic look more modern.
I had to stop Lauren because I loved how she played to her inner tomboy. Lauren told me she’s not a PDG (Plain Dress Girl), so look at how she assembled her ensemble. Who knew you could rock a baseball cap and turn into the captain of the glam squad? I saw Lauren’s jacket and loved how she made hers look so sporty. Add colored shoes like Lauren did and you’ll be good to go.
Now, you have to meet Shannon and Jill. Check out the belted leather dress on Shannon and the color blocking on Jill. So many Caché dresses feature built-in belts which allow women on the move to accessorize without the hassle of having to find the perfect belt. It’s helpful when you want to look stylish, but don’t want to spend all day getting ready.
Speaking of accessories, Gina from New York knows how to pull an outfit together. I got such a kick out of the fact that we had matching bracelets. I bought mine from Caché last year and have it in blue and orange, too. As you can see, Gina is all about pops of color. From her shoes to adding a scarf around her bag, I loved everything she brought into this outfit. She says this look started with her black skirt and she went from there. I think she and the other women who came to Fashion Week this weekend nailed their looks from head to toe.
